My card has been declined. What do I do?

Last updated on 03 Apr, 2026

Your card payment may be declined for several reasons, not just insufficient funds.

Some declined transactions won't appear on your bank statement - these are called Soft Declines. Those that do reflect on your bank statement are Hard Declines.

Banks closely monitor your spending patterns and habits. They may flag a transaction if it appears suspicious or unusual for your account. For example, if you typically use your card for cash withdrawals or in-store purchases, a large online transaction may be flagged as unusual.

Banks may also restrict larger transactions if you usually make smaller purchases.

If your card is declined, we can provide basic information about the decline. However, in most cases, you'll need to contact your bank directly for more details.
