Why is my shipment delayed?

Last updated on 09 Mar, 2026

When transporting, either domestically or internationally, a shipment’s delivery date will always only be an estimate and not a guarantee.

The courier endeavors to deliver shipments as quickly and efficiently as possible however, there are at times unavoidable delays within a courier network.

A shipment can be delayed for a wide range of reasons, and these reasons are mostly circumstances beyond the courier’s control.

Typically, most delays are found to be caused by a backlog of shipments that are yet to move within the courier’s facilities. For international shipments, delays are not always restricted to root from the courier facility of the country of collection or delivery, however. International shipments may be transported to the courier’s continental hub between the collection and delivery country.

Delays can also be caused by local delivery restrictions such as holidays (e.g. Chinese New Year celebrations, Eid’l Adha, Boxing Day).

Shipments also being sent ahead or after a peak period of shipping, may encounter delays due to the high volume of shipments moving within the courier network.

A peak period in shipping is normally defined as a period wherein the volume of transport is higher than usual. Peak periods usually occur from late fall/autumn to winter (November to early January), and over the summer (May to July).
